It was an inspiring and productive evening of strategic business engagement, collaboration, and high-level networking at the recent Institute of Directors (IoD) Spring Networking Event in London.
The evening commenced with an exclusive dinner meeting hosted by the Chairman of the IoD Africa Group, Joel Popoola, at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London. Present at the dinner were former Councillor Mabel Ogundayo, founder of Origin Consulting, alongside Ms. Femme D’Avenir and other distinguished guests. The gathering provided an excellent platform for meaningful discussions around business development, international partnerships, and leadership collaboration.
Following the dinner, attendees proceeded to the IoD Spring Networking Event held at the Tower Suites by Blue Orchid. The event was jointly led by Yvonne De Ville, Joel Popoola, and Dean Stokes.
The networking session brought together members of the various IoD groups, professionals, entrepreneurs, innovators, and business leaders from across the finance, technology, education, and international business sectors. The atmosphere reflected the core values of the IoD — leadership, collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth.
The event opened with a warm welcome and introduction by Tekyah-Renee Hipplewith, the Relationship Executive at IoD and one of the key coordinators behind the successful event. She highlighted the importance of creating spaces where professionals across sectors can connect, exchange ideas, and build long-term partnerships.
Speaking during the event, Yvonne De Ville emphasised the importance of learning, knowledge exchange, and strategic collaboration in shaping the future of educational institutions and leadership development. She noted that partnerships between educational stakeholders remain essential in preparing future generations for the rapidly changing global economy.
In his remarks, Dean Stokes thanked Tekyah-Renee Hipplewith for successfully bringing the three groups together under one platform. He spoke extensively on the role of the IoD FinTech Group in promoting innovation, emerging technologies, and digital transformation among members and businesses, particularly in an era increasingly driven by artificial intelligence and financial technology solutions.
Delivering the keynote remarks, Joel Popoola expressed appreciation for the impressive turnout and commended the synergy between the Education, FinTech, and Africa Groups within the IoD framework. He stressed the importance of collaboration in expanding opportunities for growth, membership engagement, and international business development.
Mr. Popoola further highlighted the critical role of education and financial technology in driving socioeconomic transformation across Africa. He referenced notable academic exchange initiatives and institutional partnerships involving universities in the United Kingdom and Africa, including collaborations between the University of Birmingham and the University of Lagos, as well as partnerships involving Coventry University and institutions in Ghana. He also spoke about ongoing collaborations with key stakeholders in fintech and digital transformation projects across countries such as Nigeria and Kenya.
In addition, Mr. Popoola informed attendees about the forthcoming State Visit of the President of Ghana to the United Kingdom, expected to take place within the coming weeks. He noted that the visit would create opportunities for a side Trade and Investment Forum aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploring investment opportunities. He explained that participation in the related events would be strictly by invitation and expressed optimism that members of the collaborating IoD groups would receive special invitations.
He also encouraged non-IoD members present at the event to take advantage of the numerous networking opportunities, leadership resources, and professional benefits available through membership of the Institute of Directors.
The evening concluded on a positive and energetic note with a brief vote of thanks delivered by Yvonne De Ville, who officially declared the floor open for further networking, refreshments, and continued discussions among attendees.
Overall, the event demonstrated the growing importance of cross-sector collaboration, international engagement, and strategic networking in shaping the future of business, innovation, education, and leadership across the United Kingdom and Africa.
