Benue Governor to Lead Distinguished State Delegation to the 11th Annual London Political Summit and Awards 2026

The Board of Trustees, International Advisory Council and Organising Committee of the London Political Summit and Awards (LPSA), in partnership with its charitable and educational institutions, including BookAid for Africa UK and Excellence in Education UK, are delighted to formally announce the participation of His Excellency, the Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, Executive Governor of Benue State, Nigeria, as one of the distinguished Special Guests of Honour, Guest Keynote Speakers and Double Awards Recipients at the forthcoming 11th Annual London Political Summit and Awards 2026.
The Governor is expected to lead a high-level Benue State delegation comprising the Honourable Commissioner for Education, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Benue State University of Science, Agriculture and Technology, and other senior government officials and stakeholders.
The participation of Governor Alia and the Benue State delegation adds significant institutional and developmental importance to this year’s Summit, particularly given the central focus of the Governor’s administration on education, human-capital development, agriculture, food security, science and technology, youth empowerment and sustainable socio-economic development.

The LPSA is equally pleased to confirm the nomination of His Excellency Governor Hyacinth Alia as recipient of two prestigious recognitions:
LPSA Africa Sub-National Champion of Education 2025
and
LPSA Governor of the Year 2025 & 2026
These recognitions are intended to celebrate leadership and policy priorities that place education, human capital and sustainable development at the heart of sub-national transformation.

Governor Alia to Deliver Keynote Address
As part of the Summit’s Business, Education, Agriculture and Investment Dialogue, Governor Alia will be invited to deliver a keynote address on the important subject:
“Education-Driven Agricultural Transformation, Food Security and Human Capital Development: Building Sustainable Partnerships for the Future of Benue State and Africa.”
The proposed address will provide an opportunity for His Excellency to share his administration’s vision and experiences in connecting education and human-capital development with agriculture, food security and broader economic transformation.
The dialogue will also provide an opportunity for international stakeholders to examine practical areas of cooperation with Benue State, including educational development, agricultural value chains, food production, skills development, technology, investment, research and innovation.
The LPSA considers this conversation particularly timely as African economies seek innovative ways to transform their youthful populations into productive human capital while strengthening food security and reducing economic vulnerability.
Parliamentary Engagement at Westminster
In addition to his keynote engagement, Governor Alia is expected to participate in a special Parliamentary Session at the Houses of Parliament, Westminster, London, where he will have the opportunity to engage with parliamentarians, policymakers, diplomats, institutional representatives and other distinguished guests.
The parliamentary engagement is expected to provide a platform for constructive dialogue around sub-national governance, education, agricultural development, food security, investment, diaspora partnerships and UK-Africa relations.
His participation will also provide an opportunity to showcase the Benue development experience to an international audience and encourage greater cooperation between institutions in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Educational Study Tour and Strategic Partnerships
As part of the proposed programme surrounding the Summit, Governor Alia and members of the Benue State delegation are also expected to undertake an educational and institutional study visit to the University of Cambridge, aimed at exploring opportunities for strategic partnerships, academic cooperation, knowledge exchange and institutional collaboration.
The proposed engagement reflects the LPSA’s belief that international summits should lead to tangible relationships beyond speeches and ceremonial engagements.
Educational partnerships can provide opportunities for capacity building, research collaboration, leadership development, academic exchange, professional training and institutional strengthening.
For Benue State, such engagements could potentially open new channels of cooperation between educational institutions, government agencies, researchers, development partners and international academic communities.
BookAid for Africa UK Educational Donation Initiative
Another important dimension of Governor Alia’s participation will be the proposed educational partnership between Benue State and BookAid for Africa UK.
As part of the programme, His Excellency is expected to receive a substantial donation of academic books and educational materials, alongside the proposed signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the relevant parties.
The proposed initiative involves the shipment of five (5) 20-foot containers of academic books and educational materials intended to support schools, libraries and educational institutions across Benue State.
This initiative represents an important practical dimension of the Summit’s education agenda.
Beyond the symbolic value of an international donation, the initiative seeks to contribute to improving access to educational resources and strengthening learning environments for students, teachers, researchers and educational institutions.
The LPSA is particularly pleased that its engagement with Governor Alia can facilitate conversations and partnerships capable of translating international goodwill into practical educational support for communities.
Recognition by Occupational Safety and Health Administration UK
During the three-day Summit activities, Governor Alia is also expected to receive an honorary investiture as a Fellow of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration UK, in recognition of leadership, public service and commitment to institutional and human-capital development.
The proposed fellowship will further reinforce the broader message of the Summit: that sustainable development requires not only economic growth but also investment in people, professional standards, institutional capacity, workplace safety and responsible leadership.
Remembering Raila Amolo Odinga
The 2026 edition of the London Political Summit and Awards carries particular historical significance as it commemorates the one-year memorial of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, the Summit’s Global Grand Patron.
The late statesman remains an important source of inspiration for the Summit’s continuing emphasis on democratic governance, political dialogue, Pan-Africanism, reconciliation, peacebuilding and diplomacy.
The 2026 Summit theme is:
