The 2nd Batch of Akwa Ibom State Secondary Schools Delegation on Ibom EduTrip to the UK- Empowering Future Leaders through Global Educational Exposure

Cater and Merger Consult UK is deeply delighted to be part of the consulting partners for this remarkable Educational Exchange Program. Recently, the 2nd batch of the Akwa Ibom State Secondary Schools delegation, as part of the state government-sponsored Education Exchange Program known as Ibom EduTrip, embarked on an educational tour to the United Kingdom, with support from the Nigerian High Commission in London and the London Borough of Southwark.

The 2nd batch delegation comprised 20 senior secondary school students (SSS3) and 10 adults, including a head teacher, teachers, school administrators/policymakers, and minders. The delegation to the UK was led by the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, and the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong.

During their visit, the delegation was hosted at the prestigious Imperial College London, where they were welcomed by Dr. Sunday Popoola from the Civil Engineering Department. The students and officials attended introductory lectures and participated in a comprehensive tour of the campus, gaining firsthand experience at one of the world’s leading academic institutions.

On the second day, the delegation had the privilege of an official courtesy visit to the Nigerian High Commission in the UK. They were warmly received by the Acting High Commissioner, Ambassador Maina Madugu, alongside heads of various sections of the mission. The delegation was briefed on the key functions and activities of the Nigerian mission in the UK, and the students were commended for being part of such a visionary initiative. The Acting High Commissioner praised the foresight of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State in providing this historic educational experience for the students, which will undoubtedly broaden their horizons and inspire future academic excellence. During the interactive sessions, the students were given brain challenges, answering the questions correctly and winning between £10-£20, courtesy of the Acting High Commissioner, in support of the Educational Exchange Program.

This exchange program underlines the Akwa Ibom State Government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education and global exposure for its students, fostering international learning experiences that will shape the future leaders of the state.

Following the courtesy visit to the Nigerian High Commission, the Akwa Ibom Educational Exchange Program delegation continued their engagements in London with a Mayoral visit to the Worshipful Mayor of Southwark. The delegation was warmly received in the Mayor’s Parlour at Southwark Council by Madam Mayor, Clir. Naima Ali, who took time to address the group.

During her address, the Mayor explained her duties and civic responsibilities, providing insights into the various functions of Southwark Council and its role in serving the residents of the borough. She commended the initiative of the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Executive Governor, H.E. Pastor Umo Eno, emphasizing the lifelong impact such an experience would have on the students.

In a gesture of goodwill, the Mayor presented the Mayoral Pledge to the delegation, received by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini, underscoring the importance of community service and leadership. The students and the delegation expressed their appreciation by presenting the Mayor with unique Akwa Ibom art and craft gifts. The Honourable Commissioner used the opportunity to express the Governor’s sincere gratitude for accommodating the delegation within the Mayor’s tight schedule, further strengthening the educational and cultural ties between Akwa Ibom and the City of London.

This visit marked another significant milestone in the delegation’s tour, enhancing their understanding of civic leadership and global cultural exchange. The Mayor also praised the Governor of Akwa Ibom for creating such opportunities, which inspire the students to strive for greater achievements.
